I punched Myrtle because she was mocking my own wife in front of me. Also, there were other prominent people there, and this may have ruined the reputation I had. I knew I had to do something to Myrtle or she would call me out, which is something I was not in the mood for hearing so late at night. Also, I was a little drunk, and alcohol makes me a little more aggressive. If I was not so drunk, I could have told Myrtle politely to stop talking about Daisy, but she went to far in my eyes. I though earlier that everyone there was having a good time, and I did not know why Myrtle had to bring up Daisy in that context. Also that night, I did not want to hear about Daisy because I was solely with Myrtle. Myrtle was the life of the party, and I only wanted to hear about her. This was a night to forget about Daisy for a couple of hours so I could finally get to know my secret lover Myrtle. I also did not want Myrtle to know about Daisy so she would be okay in meeting with me. If she started telling everyone about my problems with Daisy, Daisy would get rid of me. Hitting Myrtle was the only way to get her quiet and shut up about the whole situation with Daisy. Before the actual incident, my anger for Myrtle was already building, and her bringing up Daisy set me off. Just based on my character, I am an aggressive and argumentative person, especially when things do not go my way. This especially showed when I hit Myrtle right in the nose. Afterwards, I knew that this was the wrong thing to do, but I also knew that Myrtle understood me completely about not bringing up Daisy. Myrtle may have made me angry, but I felt like we were still getting along with each other fine. It was just a matter of hiding this from my wife Daisy.
